Scrabbleicious...
I'm gearing up for a 2 day, 15 game tournament in Lexington, KY where I'll be attending with 5 of my fellow club members and friends this weekend and expect to get a real ass whipping. So here is a little Scrabble humor that was posted by Deadpan Alley on the WV Scrabble blog earlier this week to set the mood.
I just love how true that this is on several different levels. In any event, I'll be looking forward to trying to do 10 games in one day on Saturday followed with 5 more on Sunday (possibly 9 on Sunday if they decide the need me to play in the optional 4 game mini-tournament Sunday morning). That's a lot of Scrabble. Last time I played in a big tournament I did pretty well for myself and won 8.5 of my 12 games coming in second place in my division. I don't think that will be the case this weekend as I'm apparently playing against much tougher competition according to the data at cross-tables.com which says I have to win about 5 of my 15 games to maintain or improve my rating. We'll see how it goes.
In the mean time, I've downloaded some interesting applications from iTunes for my new iPhone to help my Scrabbling. I have Scrabble itself, an OWL word checker (to validate words and to check to see if I could have made better words with what I had on my rack), a virtual game clock (so I don't have to worry about being without a clock for a pickup game at my favorite local restaurant), and a couple of word building games (Word Warp, Alphagram, and Quadrum). I haven't had much time to study getting ready for this tournament though, but I really don't study much more than the vowell heavy words and I'm trying to work on some of the 1,000 or so 3 letter words. We'll see how it goes as I'll try to report from the road. I leave after work today so wish me luck!
