some random Easter thoughts...

Today is Easter ... Happy Easter if you celebrate that ... if not ... then look at the bunnies (or these guys). So yesterday was my dad's birthday. He shares birthdays with Stephen Sondheim and William Shatner ...what an odd thing. Yesterday WVU also managed to make it to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament. I was playing in my Scrabble Club at the time and trying to listen to the game over the live music that got more irritating the longer that the game appeared to be favoring a WVU victory. Then there was the rushing around after Scrabble Club and the game trying to figure out where Kay had ordered my Dad's birthday cake from. I promised that I would tell on myself here. In the rush to get the games started for the club meeting and Kay heading over to watch the game with her grandpa she said that she was ordering the cake from Kroger's. I assumed she meant the Kroger's she always goes to in South Charleston and she meant the Kroger's that was closer to Southridge at Ashton Place. So I showed up at the Kroger's in South Charleston where I had told Kay to meet me so that we could head to Barboursville for Dad's birthday dinner and she was heading to the other Kroger's because ... of course ... I had simply said "meet at Kroger's" and she had said the same. I was ready to go hostile when the woman at my Kroger's said she didn't have a cake and then Kay told me she was heading to the other Kroger's and I got a little testy ... well ... I said my favorite four letter word in anger. After apologizing and promising to tell on myself we made up and headed toward Barboursville only to learn that Mom and Dad were going to be late because they had taken my grandmother's cat to the vet and he had to be put down for having some sort of cancer in his kidneys. The perfect shitty ending to a rough week. Not to mention that my sister's oldest boy developed an ear infection on the way to dinner and they had to stop to have him checked out. But it all worked out in the end.

Random things today. Well, I had my Scrabble Club and will be blogging about that later today or tomorrow. I just got the Club newsletter and found out that I'm now ranked 5th in the club after winning two of my three games yesterday and beating the club's top ranked player (well I think he was the top ranked player till yesterday ... though I may be wrong). I expect my rank to drop now that I'm out of my first 10 games acceleration period though (I played my 11th game yesterday). Our director pointed out that I've been paying all along but enjoying the no penalty for time and the free challenge bonuses. For the record ... I've only gone over time twice (I think) in that period (and not that bad) and I never used the free challenge advantage (because I forgot about it). I was challenged on 4 words yesterday too which is funny because I didn't intentionally play any phoneys ... though I still managed to lay down a few that were not challenged.

What else ... I'm getting some interesting traffic to my blog lately according to sitemeter. I'm getting a lot of LOST hits but I'm also getting hits for things like "Kramer pimp", "Shrek and Donkey", and the newest big one is about "Sarah Marshall". I also had a good one hit my review of Dan In Real Life which I watched with Kay again last night (that was such a good movie). I also have had a few odd ones related to what to say at a Grandmother's funeral. I hope they don't follow my advice because I sure didn't know what to do. Then the oddest blog related thing with links came up today when I got an email titled "advertising inquiry" from some company asking if they can put an advertising banner on my blog. I'm not going to do it but I found a blog of someone who had tried it unsuccessfully with the same company (called doingfine.org). I don't think that my hits would be high enough either. I had been getting between 80 and 120 hits a day before I got sick a few weeks ago and now I'm barely getting in the 60s and 70s for some reason. Oh well, easy come, easy go ... and I surely don't need the pennies a day that I'm sure would be all that my blog would generate. (roll eyes)
