West Virginia wants a new slogan?

Do you remember the task of Bastian Bux in The Neverending Story (note ... if you've only seen the movie then it only covers half the book and the sequels just don't do justice to the rest)? Well, it seems that West Virginia needs a new slogan because not enough people believe in "Open For Business" which was the odd replacement of the traditional slogans of "Almost Heaven" or "Wild, Wonderful, West Virginia" that I grew up hearing. Of course, this has erupted into a big controversy, like so many things do, and now we're looking at more money being spent to fix what probably shouldn't have been changed in the first place. I know that blogger Chris James (from our Blogger Board) has commented on this and there has been a very fun little thread on the Board lately about what the new slogan should be as we've been having fun playing with the "slogan generator" that the State of WV has put up on their webpage. Oh, and Chris James had many helpful suggestions for WV and other states listed in other posts on his blog.

I suggested "Our Bloggers Are The Best" which comedian/blogger/mixtape swapper RedZeppelin converted into l33t as "R BLOGGRS R TEH ROXORS!!" Now that would surely get some attention! Elvisdrinkmo had a great suggestion:

Welcome to Wild, Wonderful West Virginia*
*brought to you by Suddenlink and Friends of Coal

Unfortunately ... all of these are longer than the 20 character limit. :-(

So you have till September 19th to come up with a catchy slogan that is 20 characters or less that could wind up as the new (or old) state slogan and be officialfied by the Gov. and his hommies. If you don't have a computer ... meaning that you suck and probably aren't reading this ... then you can call (866) SLOGAN-4 with your analog slogan suggestion. Any suggestions or funny ideas can be left here in comment form so that we can all laugh at them together. I may have to go vote for "Almost Heaven" to be reinstated based upon this chick tract type flyer that I received on my windshield the other day that seems to have missed the point that we're already most of the way there.

I ain't got to WV just yet in that series, but all the comments on the board have really raised the bar.

I wonder if they'll reject "America's Practice Girl" from that one old post of mine that you linked to. :)

You know, this is just another distraction, a way to make people think they actually have a 'vote' in government.

Can you recall the last time the citizenry had a chance to vote on something significant?
